Compliance Management

Our Compliance Management Module was built utilizing overall guidance / requirements found referenced throughout the following North American Agencies/Acts and Departments:

  • United States:

    1. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC):

      • FERC Order Nos. 2003 and 2006 govern interconnection standards for renewable energy projects. These orders outline procedures and requirements for connecting renewable resources to the grid.

    2. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

      • The Clean Air Act (CAA) and Clean Water Act (CWA) are key federal laws administered by the EPA. Regulations under these acts, such as 40 CFR Part 60 and 40 CFR Part 61 for air emissions, and 40 CFR Part 122 and 40 CFR Part 125 for water discharges, apply to wind and solar projects.

    3. Department of Energy (DOE):

      • While not a regulation, DOE's Wind Energy Technologies Office and Solar Energy Technologies Office provide guidance and support for renewable energy projects. Specific funding opportunities and initiatives may have their own reference numbers and programmatic details.

    4. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA):

      • Advisory Circulars (ACs) such as AC 70/7460-1L and AC 70/7460-2L provide guidance on marking and lighting requirements for wind turbines to ensure aviation safety.

    5. Bureau of Land Management (BLM):

      • BLM regulations, found in titles such as 43 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) Part 2800, govern the leasing and development of renewable energy resources on public lands managed by the agency.

    Canada:

    1. Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC):

      • Environmental assessments for projects are conducted under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act (CEAA). Specific versions and amendments of the CEAA are referenced depending on the project and its impacts.

    2. Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC):

      • For solar photovoltaic projects involving radioactive materials, CNSC regulations under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) apply. Specific regulatory documents and guidelines under the NSCA provide detailed requirements.

    3. Natural Resources Canada (NRCAN):

      • While not a specific regulation, NRCAN provides guidance and standards related to renewable energy development through publications such as the Canadian Wind Turbine Standards and Guidelines and Solar Photovoltaic Installation Standard.

    4. Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA):

      • The Impact Assessment Act (IAA) replaced the CEAA in 2019. Projects undergo assessments according to the regulations outlined in the IAA, which are updated periodically.

    5. Transport Canada:

      • Regulations related to aviation safety, such as those affecting wind turbines near airports, are found in various Transport Canada documents, including Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
